I am planning on using a shadow 1/2″ reveal trim at the base of my walls, between 5/8″ drywall and flush baseboards. Have read about both using a vinyl bead (trim-tex) and aluminum (fry reglet). It would seem that the vinyl bead would be quite a bit cheaper. Does anyone have experience with these products or can suggest when to use one vs the other? Thank you

I haven't worked a ton with either, but the fry reglet is a waaaaay better product. I've mostly used the Z-Reveal profile, and for the same application you're talking about (running drywall to the floor with a 1/4" or 1/2" reveal, no baseboard).
It's definitely spendier than the vinyl stuff, but is way more durable. Worth considering in case it ever gets kicked or hit by a vacuum cleaner. If you have to turn any corners, you can cut it on a chop saw and get super clean miters. Depends on the price delta, but if you can swing it, the fry reglet's probably the way to go.
Thank you. Do you think its still worth it if I am putting a 1x6 windsorone flush baseboard below the z-reveal?
What is your opinion on Trim-Tex vinyl beads. My plan was to use their mud-on outside and inside corners, tear-away beads at the windows and at intersections between drywall and metal beams, concrete walls.
The house is very modern and I would like to achieve the best looking and quality result possible. Thank you
Are you doing all this taping yourself? Most pro tapers would never use the inside trimtex corners...just tape and glaze them, or use an angle trowel. Reglet will be more durable, but a lot more work to install and more $$$ (it could be $20-50 per 10' piece, plus $250-300 for freight, depending where you get it from) If you put some flush base below the reveal, trimtex Z bead will work perfectly fine, and will be much easier to work with.
Although it costs more than vinyl, it is far more robust. Worth taking into account if a vacuum cleaner kicks or strikes it. If any corners need to be cut, a chop saw can be used to get clean miters. Depending on the price difference, the fried reglet is the better option if you can afford it.
