Drywall for vaulted ceiling with 2×4 rafters, and 2×6 hips
I’m currently converting my garage into an office, it’s a detached garage with a hipped roof with 2×4 rafters and 2×6 hip rafters. I’ve vaulted the ceiling, added collar ties, and I’m about to start hanging drywall. I would like the corners of the ceiling to be flush, however this seems to require bringing the 2×4 rafters out 2″ so the surface to hang the drywall matches with the hips. Is there a common technique for this? My current plan is to run 2x4s along the hip rafters to support the edges of the drywall, and 2x4s horizontally across the rafters to create a flush backing.
