drywall weight

purplerays | Posted in General Discussion on June 10, 2008 02:35am

Hey, I have another question.  How much does a sheet of drywall weigh?  I’m trying to see if I can get the whole basement load in one trip in my truck.  I used to have a chart from the company pettibone( lift), but it’s been a while.  Thanks guys.

      like Sphere says, 1/2 is 1.9 lb/sq ft, 5/8 is 2.4 lb/ sq ft, or 55 lb/cubic foot

It weighs a lot less in the AM, gets real heavy late afternoons.

Cuts more accurate in the AM too......that's not a mistake, it's rustic

Ceiling drywall is twice as heavy as wall drywall.

    1. MisterT | Jun 12, 2008 04:16pm | #7

But not heavy enough for boss to rent a lift....

Of course, it only weighs half as much when the Boss is lifting it!in his dreams

When I was your age I could hang 16 ft sheets of 5/8" on 12 foot ceilings alone, balancing the rock on my head with a screw gun in both hands....I would rock and tape an entire subdivision before lunch....

And I would walk to the lumberyard thru broken glass in my bare feet and carry it back and it was uphill, both ways!!.

All I know is that my first introduction to drywall was as a labourer - all of 125# I suppose - and a semi pulled into the site loaded down with 5/8" x 12'They did not have lifts to hoist to second floor windows in those days.End of the day, I think my back was 2" shorter and my arms were 10" longer!

Its weightless when you have the supplier bring it on their big truck and their two guys carry it into the house or project.

Seriously call your local drywall house (if you have one) as they charge the same price as HD and Lowes and will usually deliver, carry and stack for like $50-100 in my area.  Well, worth it if its more than 25 boards!  About what your truck can carry I am guessing...
