Ok, I do not make a living framing so give me a break please.
A few yrs ago I helped a friend do an ICF house and once walls were done I did not return till roof framing complete and I was doing vinyl. One framing detail really stood out on roof. At least 1 valley rafter LVL (possibly single) intersected the structural ridge ok but where the seat cut was at the bottom it landed on what was basically a non bearing wall and to me seemed suspended on its own. It passed building inspection and 2 years have past with no problems yet. I thought for sure there would be major roof sagging problems.
Now I have had plans drawn up for a garage addition of my own. One of the valley rafters shown on the plan does not seem to fall on a bearing wall at the bottom. Did the architect make a mistake??? or am I not understanding something about valley frame roofing.
I always thought that valleys must be supported ridge and seat.
I can try to attach a copy of my plan if that would help
Thanks.
