Must the floor system for a side by side duplex be separated for fire reasons? Our code talks a little about fire blocking as far as drywall on basement ceiling or garage walls. For example, I plan to use I-joists butted together at the basement dividing wall. Is it okay to butt them together or must there be some separation for fire blocking?
Thanks

Separation of all wood between units is required.
We have to run our firestop material from the foundation (not just the top of the treated sill)up into the attic, up to the bottom of the roof sheathing.
It doesn't help matters that our local inspector is also a retired Fire Chief.
