durabond,can’t find it what now
heres what i’m working on. rock lath ( it’s a sheetrock product with 1″ holes drilled all over and 1/2 ” of plaster over that. musta been when they was switching from lath and plaster to sheetrock and people were weary that the new sheetrock product wouldn’t work! basically same as lath and plaster) anyway new electric everywhere, holes punched all over the house. i’ve done quite a bit of reading here and the consensus was to use durabond, the “hard sanding ” stuff not the new easy sand lightweight. well i search hi and lo today, hd, lowes, 2 commercial drywall suppliers, and all anyone has is easy sand. do they still make the old durabond? if i have to order some anyone no a supplier? if all else fails what other suggestions do you have? my plan was to fill the holes with 5/8 rock ,mesh tape and 1st coat 90 min dura bond then start finishing with general purpose mud . that was plan A! looks like it’s time to go to plan b whatever that is. thanks for you input larry oh just a little note if your ever bidding a job for tearout with this stuff and you can’t get to the backside to push it off, bid high it’s twice as hard to knock out from the front side, at least with lath it bounces and knocks the plaster to the ground!

Durabond is still available at my local Lowes..Home Depot used to have it but no more. Your drywaller supplier if he is not a USG yard won't have it either. so find a yard that sells USG products. My local paint store also carries it in 45 and 90..just got to shsop around I guess. Great product for taping and 2nd coating!
My Lowe's has Easysand in 20, 45, 60, 90, and 120, but they don't have Durabond.
Ask the construction manager at Lowes to get it for you. I asked mine to get the LaFarge mud and he brought in 2 pallets..so I pick up what I need. They will get it for you if you ask them.
Where are you located? Man, Durabond is available all over around here (Cleveland, OH). Lowe's, HD, Paint stores, etc.
You may want to e-mail USG or call them to see where you can get it locally. As someone else mentioned, you can get it in in various mixes which dry at different rates. Durabond 45 (theoretically 45 minute drying time), Durabond 90 (theoretically 90 minute drying time), etc.
A link to the USG website is below.

It's about 9 to 10 dollars here for a 25 LB. bag.
Good luck.
