I live in the No. CA Bay Area and I’m having trouble find suppliers of blue board for a skim coat plaster. Any one know of any reason why I couldn’t use backer board as a base for a plaster skim coat in my bathroom remodel? Seems like it sould key well. Any one know? Thanks.

it'll do just fine..even superior... but the skim coat won't behave the same way it does on blueboard..
do a two coat.. brown coat and then finish...

Thanks. That's encouraging if I go that route. Do you know if I should use a specific brand of plaster or any add mixes since this will be for the bathroom and might get wet? Would you use the same mix for the finish coat as you did the brown coat? Which backer board is the best? I was thinking of using Durarock but I can get Hardibacker and one other brand at the HD. Any preference? Thanks again for your help.
