Anybody buy one of the combo kits that includes a DW 18 v 1/2″ drill & an 18 v impact driver (+ 2 batteries & charger)? Saw the kit today at HD for $269- heck, the impact driver alone costs that much. Are they lesser models than those purchased separately? Are they worth a ****?

That combo's awesome. I've had mine for 3 years of daily abuse, no problem. That's not DeWalt's latest model though. Probably why the lower price.

I bought the combo kit about two years ago when it was on sale -- I think I paid about $240. This was my first impact driver and I've been more than pleased with it.
Dewalt has its detractors, but I've never had any problems with any of my Dewalt cordless tools (drills, impact driver, saws-all, circular saw, grinder).
I to got one when they were $250 or so about 3 yrs ago. Both drill and driver have fallen off 10 ft ladders and have taken all sorts of abuse. Buy it and you won't be disappointed with performance. Then you can wait 2 or 3 more years to replace the batteries with li-on when they're cheaper.
