DW “suggested'” I pass on ;a tool deal
Garage sale today had a 10″ Sears RAS for $50.
Easy $50 profit for 14 min work – 3 min drop it in the truck, 1 min roll it off the truck (literally), 5 min on internet (cripes, already wasted 5 min here today) to e-mail for rebate, 5 min to pull off motor and put in the delivered UPS box, get $100 check from Emeerson 4 weeks later (have done this 4 or 5 times so far) .
What did DW say –
‘big deal, you get 50 bucks and I get to look at another RAS arm and frame sitting in the back yard till the scrap prices go up again, just leave it’.
Ach well<G> If this one had had a like new freud blade on it like one of the previous ones, would have got it anyway.

You probably could have talked them down to $30 or $40.
"Put your creed in your deed." Emerson
"When asked if you can do something, tell'em "Why certainly I can", then get busy and find a way to do it." T. Roosevelt
You passed up $200 per hour just because you want to wait for higher scrap prices?
Did you flunk math?
Did you flunk math?
Nah, 'happy hour' in the afternoon with DW worth more than $200 <G>
Saw on the local news that the State of California is having a giant garage sale this week in Sacramento, trying to fill a substantial budget shortfall. One example of a first day sale; three Geiger counters in boxes for $40. Look for them on Ebay this week.
Not fer nuttin' but how come you don't do a scrap run once a month, just to keep the back yard stuff rotating. It's gotta be good for some gas money anyway. Seems like runs to the scrap yard should be an acceptable part of doing garage sale deals. (If this sounds like your DW, maybe she's more powerful than you think.)
about every "deal" i passed on i kick myself later... like the $300 BSA chopper in the back of the guys truck that had belonged to his late brother... because i was try'n to stop buy'n motorcycles... or the 1960 buick at an estate sale one owner 40k miles for $800 because i was try'n to stop buy'n old cars....
oh well... last RAS i saw at a yard sale i just told the guy how to get the refund check... he only wanted $30 for it but he really looked like he needed the $$... and seemed like he'd take the advice and actually get the $100
p
>>because i was try'n to stop buy'n motorcycles
Had a serious problem, eh?
LOL... cars were become'n a problem ... just because of the space required... you can get alot of bikes in the space of one car... really can when they are mid/late 50's early 60's full size convertibles ....I'm better now
p:)
Yeah, I'm sure you can quit anytime. So can Art.
emerson pays you $50 for the old motor? "Core exchange"?
emerson pays you $50 for the old motor? "Core exchange"?
Emerson pays you $100 for the motor as part of an at least 15 YO recall settlement.
Only $50 profit if you buy one cheap for $50 or less.
I have told 4 folks at garage sales to send it in (including yesterday) and 3 pulled the saw out of their garage sale. One guy did not want to bother, and even gave me the saw even after I told him about how to get the rebate and not beleiving I was not as poor as me and my truck look <G>
BTW, I did buy another S-10 Friday for $200, the guy even delivered it to unload it after trying to sell it for $600 on CL (told him I'd buy for my price if he delivered if he could not sell it). Got it running pretty quick, but sounds like spin bearing, good enough for the 12 and 14 YO grandkids to drive around the back yard. Had to pull the 8YO out with the backhoe though cause he got stuck in a hole not being able to reach the brake fast enough.
They won't refund the money on all models though. I looked mine up and they wanted to send replacement gaurd, no refund.
Do you have a link to this rebate. I have a RAS Sears that scares me every time I turn it on. I would love to get rid of it.
Thanks
http://www.radialarmsawrecall.com/Thanks to Art, I just got $100 for a 9" saw I bought used in 1978 for $75... it was still a good saw, but I have a 10 and 12"<G>http://www.tvwsolar.com
We'll have a kid
Or maybe we'll rent one
He's got to be straight
We don't want a bent one
He'll drink his baby brew
From a big brass cup
Someday he may be president
If things loosen up
I never tell DW about deals I find. Then she can't tell me to pass on them!
Sheesh, my ex wife has an old one in her barn, I'll try and talk her out of it. We're on good terms.......View Image
Today, DW sees me wheeling a 6" planer from the end of th guy's driveway toward the front.
$25 for a Craftsman all cast circa 1965 6" planer, tight bearings, good 1 HP motor and stand. The knives were even straight and sharp.
Told DW "when I die, the grandkids wont have to fight over any tools, there will be one of everything for everybody! (only have 5 GK's, no expecting anymore, but only have 5 GOOD planers!)
Also got a cast iron TS with CI wings! The CI wings are what are hard to find.
Guy had a climbing harness and set of long tree climbing spikes. I've wanted a good set of those for years, first time I ever saw at a garage sale, and only $20 for ALL (8 carabiners and 100 ft of rope in the lot were worth the $20!) DW pretty insistent on this one 'you are just going to hurt yourself bad again!!!"
"AGAIN" being the operative word in that sentence.lolthe older i get ,
the more people tick me off
What can you fit thru a 6" planer? Do your grandkids a favor and start buying and restoring old 24" Yates-American and Crescent machines! Throw in a couple of battle-ship sized jointers and a 36" bandsaw and you'll be remembered forever.
