I'm assuming Easi-Sand light Weight is a drywall joint compound, My guess is that on unpainted drywall some of the moisture can go through the the board, but over paint it all has to come out from the exposed side.

*Jay, yes it's a drywall compound, but it is a quick set compound. We use quickset compounds to repair drywall. We use a quick set that is not light weight and it dries over all kinds of paint and dries quickly. I would like to know what makes one type dry and the other doesn't. We do alot of repairs in houses where dust is an issue, like computers and electronics, we make the repair and wet sand and finish the repair in the same day. The light weight does not wet sand well because it does not dry. Sometimes the light weight will come off during the painting process.Louis

Why does the Easi-Sand Light Weight not dry fast when it goes over paint?
