Here’s a rookie question…
2nd floor shed dormer, cathedral ceiling.
When framing interior walls perpendicular to the rafters how does the top plate go?
If it is nailed directly to the rafter the top of the drywall will get screwed up. (as shown in attached file)
Seems like ripping an angled cut on the tablesaw might work-but there must be a better way.

One of two ways.
first way is rip the uphill side to the right pitch. No need to worry about the other side of the wall ( the right in your drawing)
The second way is to use a plate of 3/4" 1x4 board. It doesn't have enough projection to worry with. You'll want to keep layout same as roof raters in most cases with that method. I have even done it with no top plate lining up on rafters.

I'd rip a tapered 2x then nail the plate against that. This way, you dont have to cut a bunch of studs at an angle. Plus, it will give you better blocking for the top of the drywall especially if you are strapping the ceiling.
