I am building a house and was going to use “hig-end” vinyl shake siding (probably Certainteed). However, I have just been introduced to a newer product that is much more attractive and substantial. Ecostar, Inc. www.ecostarinc.com produces a roof shingle that can be used as siding. It is made out of recycled rubber (80%) and plastic. The guaranty is 50 years. The shakes are individually applied. It is quite expensive (about the same as real cedar installed) but I do not want the maintenance of cedar.
Anyone familiar with the product that can give me any advice?
Thanks,

I thought my reference to "high end" vinyl would at least generate a few responses. How about a little help here?
Thanks,

I'm guessing no one here has used the product.I almost posted a few days ago with "if you use it, come back and let us know how it is"!!Rich BeckmanAnother day, another tool.
Subject to architectural approval by the HO assoc I will be using it. Will post some pics when we have some installed.

I followed the Ecostar link you furnished, and in scanning the product literature, could not find any reference to use of the shingles on walls. Only saw roofs.
I'll bet that factory-finished fiber cement shingles would cost you much less. Put the difference in a savings account, and call it your refinishing fund.
hig-end vinyl...seem like a contradiction of terms..lol
if its approaching cedar shakes in cost, why not use concrete tile?
