edge guide on skilsaw to rip lumber
recently, i had to rip some 2×4’s in half, and didn’t have my tablesaw with me..I’ve gotten used to using my fingers to clamp on to my skilsaw table to use as an edge guide for ripping, but i don’t know how many times i’ve ended up cursing at the number of splinters I accumulate form the rough edges of lumber.. I looked around my tool box for some kind of small clamp i could attach to my sawtable, and came across my set of stair gauges.. perfect!! just clamp the stair gauge onto the front edge of your skilsaw tableat the appropriate distance from the blade, or use two to clamp onto the front and back edges to keep the saw aligned..

you could also by a rip guide for about 10 bucks ;)
In a pinch I've used a pair of vice grips, they work great for smaller rips up to about 4 inches.
I only golf on days that end with a "Y".
A chunk of wood is faster. My pencil is always handy; it works fine.
I wear gloves and I rarely get those slivers but I do remember them from my earlier "bare" years.

those stair gauges are the trick. I've found a ton of uses for them, including what you said. You can also use 'em to kick your saw bevel up a few degrees and keep it consistent, i.e. 56 degree bevels on rafters etc...
thanks, guy..i like the one about tilting the table over 45 degrees, too..
