Does anyone have experience with any of the elastomeric products for color coating for stucco versus traditional cement based products? The info I have gleaned so far:
1. Elasotmeric products are more expensive. About $2K more for a 2500 sq. ft. house
2. Elastomeric coat will keep hidden and sealed any cracks that may occur in the scratch/brown coats
3. Elastomeric products can be mixed to any color in the rainbow.
4. Elastomeric products are relatively new. Will they stand the test of time?
Any other inputs? Does anyone know if one is more labor intensive to apply than the other? Can the elasotmeric coats be patched if any problems occur or if a window needs to be added to the building?

Elastomeric coatings are not the right way to treat your stucco.
The biggest problem with coatings over stucco is the fact that these coatings don't allow the stucco to breathe. Once moisture is allowed in it cannot escape.
Please, take my 25 years experience in the plastering craft.
I am now restoring 24 exterior stucco columns (c. 1813) that someone had painted elastomeric coatings over in the 1980's.
These columns now are spalling apart and rotting. The wooden handrails and the decking are rotting and other problems.
The correct way to change the color of your stucco is to give it a "rescrub". This is where the plasterer applies a new coat of stucco right over the top of the old stucco.
If you don't want to change the color but rather just give it a face lift give the old stucco a "fog coat". This is where just the pigments, a little lime, Portland cement and water is sprayed over the old stucco. Since this is a very thin coat it is not meant for badly damaged color of your old stucco.
Fog coat materials can be bought from most manufacturers. However, be aware that some manufacturers will try to sell you an elastomeric coating as a fog coat.....Don't let em! Eastomeric coatings are NOT a type of fog coat!
One source for the right kind of fog coat is from La Habra Products in Anaheim Ca. (Lincoln Avenue)
