We have an electric carrier system.
Indoor unit FK4C
Outdoor heat pump 38yma
Honeywell electronic programmable thermostat.
All Out of warranty.
Last year when the heat pump would kick on technician would trip a breaker in the panel. Technician came out and replace the starter solenoids in the heat pump. Problem gone $300
new symptoms,
Last week , the breaker on the far right on the indoor carrier unit trips, shutting off the thermostat and so no heat
reset breaker, then go back to the thermostat, turn heat up and nothing, turn it to auxiliary heat and everything kicks on , including the heat pump, as soon as I hear the heat pump kick on I turn it back to normal heat and everything works fine, shutting down and restarting fine for a day or two and then re does it.
Called the technician who serviced it last time, he said it was the solenoids in the outdoor unit, I said yeah but you replaced those last year,
oh then that’s not it, he said
then went on to tell me carriers were not a good system and maybe I have an inside control panel problem, he is not a carrier dealer
the dealer that installed it 8 years ago is gone, I would call the other carrier dealer in town, but he and I have bumped heads on a few other jobs, and I no longer use him as a sub
any ideas ?

Ya, call the carrier guy.
He may not like you. You may not like him.
Business is business. Customer satisfaction = payday and no complaints to the maufacturer.
Be your professional self and he will too.
The problem could be in the control circuite that signals the contactor to pick up, or it could be a bad contactor. He will have seen the problem before and know how to fix it without a lot of trouble shooting time and $$.

I wonder if you aren't having some sort of hard starting problem, and switching to emergency performs a reset. Check your filters and the outdoor unit to make sure nothing's clogged. Check your line voltage to see if you're getting brownouts.
