I am looking into using electric space heaters to supplement a heating system in an apartment we rent out. I don’t think we can afford to do it imediately, but we plan on significantly improving the insulation. Currently there is 1 register to the apartment (single zone connected to apartment downstairs).
To this system I am looking to add wall mounted electric heaters. There are a few options- electric storage systems, ceramic/oil filled units and heat fan units.
Does anyone have any experience using something like this for heating?
We are of course in a cold climate in western massachusetts.
thanks

Standard baseboard electric heaters get very hot and can melt things that touch them. Fans are noisy. The oil filled don't get as hot and retain some heat when the juice turns off. Those would be my choice.
Beat it to fit / Paint it to match
IMO - skip the 'storage' units and the 'ceramic' or oil filled type ... expensive devices w/ little benefit. The little bit of 'storage' (oil or otherwise) is minimal and not worth it. Don't believe the hype about energy savings, efficiency, even heat, etc. with these devices. Thems are snake oil salesmen wanting to sell you something that you really don't want or need.
Stick to the simple fan and coil models (e.g. Cadett (sp)) wall mounted to supplement your other heat if you feel the need to. The work well. Forced air circulation ensures more even heat and quick response.
