I just ripped out an old tiled shower/tub surround. and noticed that the Hydro feed comes in there at the exterior wall. ( it then runs elsewhere to the panel-old reno)
the tub is getting replaced and the shower wall will be retiled. I am planning to use a backer board. But what I want to know is should the cables be addressed in anyway. Is there a code violation? moving the outside box would be way out of there budget as I insisted that they replace thier old beat up metal tub, and they are now faced with a $1000 plumbers bill to fix the mess of old plumbing, and the new fixtures.
They are friends of mine and I trading my carpentry services with them. and I am hoping I don’t have to tell them they need an electricain too.

I don't know about Canadain code, but there is no problem with cables, even feeder cables in a shower wall.
However, there is a requirement for the disconnect to be as close to the point where the cable enters the structure. Interrupted differently by different inspectors, sometimes with 6", others no more than 6 ft.
Otherwise it would require a disconnect on the outside, replace the cable with 4 wires and convert the panel to a sub-panel.
Current code also requires that the copper water lines be grounded to the panel grounding bus if there is any chance that they mey become energized because of their proximity to any wiring. I'll look up the article when I get down to the shop tonight.
Seems like a good idea in this case.

And IN ADDITION any other metal pipe and exposed structural metal that there is a chance that it becomes energized.
