I need to run power to a kitchen island for an existing kitchen I remodeled. I have access to a 20 amp circuit in a wall about 3 feet from the island…my plan is to pull up the tile in this walkway, cut a 1″ deep trench in the slab to the island base, insert a metal conduit, pull the wire through, patch slab and re-tile. Any reason why this might be un-kosher?

why not use ENT instead of EMT...?
the plastic is approved for slabs and not susceptible to corrosion.
just need to pull a ground through as well

Yes, good point. What about the depth of placement--is one inch enough for the code people?
how thick is the tile?.

standard floor tile--porcelain--probably 1/4".
as long as the raceway is not subject tp physical damage, you will be ok.
make sure the raceway is at least covered by whatever you use to patch the trench, which you need anyway with those thin tile!.
