Hello,
I;m trying to design and build an elevated wood deck over my concrete floor garage in Michigan. Deck height is 42″ to match with my house floor. Deck is 13′ wide and 22′ long (Depth of garage). One of the two sides (22′) is the existing garage wall and the oppositeĀ side (22′) is a new wall (12′ to ceiling) splitting the entire depth of a 3-car garage. I’m thinking 2×8 joists @12″ o.c. spanning the width of 13′ allowing 360 deflection, 40 psf LL, and 10 psf DL. The long side (22′) will be bolted to a ledger board attached to the existing garage wall.
Would 4 posts (6×6) @ 5′ o.c. along the long edge of the deck(22′) and 4 posts in the middle spanning the 22′ lengthĀ be good or an overkill? Do I need to dig any footings under the posts (say 12x12x12) flush with the existing concrete and place the posts on top?
Space will be used a living space with furniture.
