We have an old bungalow built in 1955 that we are rehabbing as rental property. The washer/dryer are in a recessed corner of the kitchen. We want to enclose that area and install bifold doors. The width of the area from finished wall to finished wall is 5 ft. The depth of the area is 23 in. Can we extend a wall parallel to the existing wall and enclose w/ the bifolds? How much would we need to extend it to accomodate a washer/dryer? Is the 5 ft finished width sufficient? Thanks for your input.

You better make sure you put the W/D in place and open the doors on both (assuming the washer is a front load) and then make sure you get enough additional width to accomodate the space taken up by the bifolds. Also you might want to check on new W/D combos out there because the sizes are going up. If you don't think ahead and allow for front load size and door swing you or your renter will curse you every time the have to reach up and untrack the door to load the w/d.

Just saw a pc. on the Mary D Fund, Block Island.
Seems like a heck of a lady.
I just happened to check mine over the weekend. I have interior to interior 5'6" with the dor framing returns for casing its a 5' opening. Bifolds won't work with front load washer and 5' opening unless you are going to stack them. I would go up to 64" minimum door width.
