energy efficent crawl space vents
I am currently building an addition on a house in MT. The foundation is ICFs with TJI joist and rim joist. The rim joists between the I-joists are insulated with two layers of loose fitting Dow board foam with the gaps filled with expanding foam. I am looking for crawl space vents that can be opened in the summer and closed with a good amount of efficiency during the winter. I am not considering a sealed and conditioned space on this addition as I have on new houses as the existing house would be impossible to seal. Thanks for any links or leads on this product. Ron

I recall using a plastic vent a while back w/ a flap to close for the winter. It was a rectangular box about 8" deep and a plastic grid/screen and then a hinged flap to allow you to open/close it. I think it is still commonly available ... maybe even Lowe's/HD ... or your local lumber yard. You set them prior to concrete pour. Someone will probably jump in here w/ a link or manufacturer.
Hey thanks, I'm familiar with that style, I was just hoping that some manufacturer had come up with something a little more sofisticated. I appreciate your response. Thanks, Ron
Some glass block manufacturers have various accesories such as little windows (two blocks wide) or dryer vents with a block next to it.
I have one of the 2-block wide windows. It is basically the standard size of a crawl space vent hole, however in my case, they slathered some concrete on the bottom of the vent holes, so I will have to grind/chisel that away prior to being able to install the windows.
But anyway, if I think of it, I will take a picture of one of them. Little openable window with a screen.

That sounds like kind of what I was hoping to find. Thanks a bunch for the tip. Will take a look at the glass block manufacturers. Thanks, Ron
