I am planning to install Some EPDM on a small attached garage roof for a family member. I have never done it before but i have been on site when a sub was doing it. The current roof is roll Roofing over 1 inch board sheeting. My plan is to strip the roof down to the original sheathing and cover that with 1/2″ OSB. This brings up the first question. How should i attach the OSB? Are nails alright or should I use screws with those big washers? Then I plan to attach the Epdm directly to the OSB. Is this acceptable, or is High Density fiberboard required? I would appreciate any advice you can give about Epdm Installation!
Thanks Very Much ,

if
the original sheathing is good....i'd fasten the hardboard ( high density fiberboard ) with the screws and plates
skip the osb
+1 on skipping the osb
unless you need it to stiffen the roof. You can adhere the epdm directly to osb, but you'll likely get better life out of it by using the fiber board. If you do elect to glue the epdm directly to the osb, screw the osb down, but don't use plates. The plates are for use on the fiber board.
You don't want OSB for this. If you need a wood substrate instead of recovery board use 3/8" ext ply and screw it off.
OSB is not good ther if it gets damp after application and before EPDM, and it is too rough surfaced, so you would end up likely using a second coat of adhesive.
The big plates are for the recovery bd or insulation board
