OK, it’s been a while since I’ve done an EPDM roof. Last time I did one I primed and used seam adhesive. Today I picked up parts to do a rooftop deck, and got the newfangled seaming tape. I don’t know why but I had in my head that it was a double-sided tape, so I left my guys with instructions on how I would proceed.
They called me later on and told me they had applied the tape as I told them, between the overlapping sheets, but that the tape was single-sided. I’m mad at the salesman for not giving me more information (and for telling me a gallon of adhesive would be enough for a 12’x12′ deck. I read the can and it said 60sf coverage. I went back and got the 5gal bucket instead.)
Anyway, how do I do this?

It's double sided. There's release tape on one side that has to be pulled off after you get it in place. Dope slap the guys you've got working for you.

At least I'm not crazy. I bet the yard guys gave me the wrong stuff. Thanks!

That happens a lot more lately - so many new product6s thatt he guys in the yard get confused or just forget to read labels.

I shouldn't blame the yard guys. Usually I research any new ways of doing things and don't rely on them to know more than I do. But this was a specialty roofing yard, and I do expect more assistance than I do at a big box store.
Turns out the tape they gave me is, according to them, what most guys around here are using now. It does indeed go over the top of the splice, after cleaning the rubber with gasoline. Since what I had in my head, and what folks said here, all involved double-sided tape I decided to go that route. I also got some of their seam caulk which they had said I didn't need, just to be safe. And they gave me an instruction book.
Got to the job, read the book, and found I needed primer. We did a test to see if it would stick without the primer, no go. Call the yard and ask if they have seam primer. "Oh yeah, we have that." Great, another trip. Aargh. It's my own fault for not planning ahead and ordering 12' material. But it would be nice if the guys at the specialty roofing yard could tell me what I needed for this fairly common system.

Actually there are several kinds of tape.
There's seam tape which is double sided (that's what you should have gotten)
There's uncured flashing tape which is one sided. It's stretchable and has no "memory", so it will conform to irregular surfaces and stay there.
And then there's cover tape which is cured, and has "memory" and is for flat surfaces. (It also is one sided) You can force it to shape around an irregular surface , but it will eventually pull up as it tries to revert to it's original flat state.
Check your receipt. The salesman may have written it up as seam tape, but the yard guy may have pulled a roll of cover tape or uncured flashing tape by mistake. Either way, I would hope the supplier makes it right for you.

You're right - I took him on his word that he got the "newfangled seaming tape". He may have actually gotten something else.http://logancustomcopper.com

If it is only 12x12, why do you have seams?

There's only one supplier around here who has it in stock, and they only had 10'x50' rolls. I could have planned ahead better and ordered 12'.

I was wondering that myself
