Equip auction-Prazi Beam Cutter. and…

Today I went to an equipment auction of one of the areas oldest largest construction firms, which has sadly and abruptly gone bankrupt.
I was after wall jacks and got myself 4 QualKraft ones, but had to buy them in a lot with a quite a few other items, the most useful or valuable of which is a Prazi Beam Cutter that fits a worm drive saw.
Is anyone interested in it? For sale or trade.
It was pretty interesting to watch the auction antics. People sure get frenzied! I watched as a local air tool/nail sales guy bought about 18 Hitachi NR83 framing nailers to sell out of his store–150$ each. Another guy seemed to buy EVERYTHING, including about 25 skil wormdrives (I’m not exaggerating the #) for 85$ each. I asked where he’d be reselling them and he said they were for his construction crew@! I also laughed watching a guy buy 3 of the greenlee green jobboxes you can get @ HD for 249$ –he paid 345$ each!
Anyway-I’ve got a slew of other stuff in this lot too–two boxes of these “Rap I Form” things for concrete forms http://www.awardmetals.com/RIFinstallation.htm Anybody use those?
And quite a few 14″ abrasive blades… those go in those gas operated concrete/metal saws?
Lots of old twist drills… some good I dunno… Scrap…
Couple fans…
A lockset boring jig.. looks good. And two metal hinge template guides.. they look good…
Da da ta da da…

What did you pay for your lot if you don't mind telling?
Just curious, don't need the Prazi.
The best reward for a job well done is the opportunity to do another.
250$ Too much, I think, but what the H.
What kind of lockset boring jig, and condition?

this thing actually looks pretty nice... it's made by Schlage--the model is #1100.
Big brass colored thing with two sieds that both clamp inward to the door witha large wingnut... backsets on stops for 2 3/8 out to 5"...
Beefy.
Any chance of a picture? I Googled Schlage #1100, but came up empty. What came with the clamp, bits, case, templates, etc?

I'll send you a photo, but I dunno if I want to sell it. Do you do a lot of slab doors?
If you do, probably more than I do and therefore deserve it more than I
!
Here it is. Came with nothing but orig box and instr.
I clamped it to a door and if the setscrew on the rear is adjusted properly it holds very firm.
I would be very interested, if you want to sell. I do a lot of slabs, and my current jig is starting to get worn.
Email me if you're interested, and a price. I understand if you'd rather not. Thanks either way.

man, i wished i would have known that was today! i could have gone just to go. I just bought three boxes of the spreader cleats this morning, what size(s) did you get?
Who has a crew big enough here for 25 skill saws that doesnt already have them? must have been from portland.
watching a guy buy 3 of the greenlee green jobboxes you can get @ HD for 249$ --he paid 345$ each!usta been from portland.
Last big auction i was at a couple of years ago i watched a lady buy a 2 year old riding lawnmower (sears) for over 2 Gs. The mower brand new was only about 18 or 1900. Its amazing how people get worked up competing with eachother.
I think they're 12" I didn't look.
Maybe that's why they were sitting there.. pretty wide?
Skilsaw guy said he was from here.. I didn't ask who he was as something in his demeanor was warning me off...
I offered to buy one--an 81/4" blade model for 15$ over his cost and he scoffed...
Ok...
How did the big equipment go? price wise did it seem reasonable or were there people getting screaming deals?
It seemed to me people were getting pretty well raped on just about everything...
I didn't stick around for the big stuff.
Some lots of scaffolding and whatnot went pretty good I think...
How about this, 16' x 16" alumaplank went for nearly 400$ IIRC That's certainly what it was new!
Well im a little surprised things went that high especially after tax month.
I have not seen 12" spreader cleats before, must be for commercial wall?
i use 1 1/8" x 6" and 1 1/8x 8" for residential foundations. if your curios i paid $62.00 per 100 (1 box) for the latter ones from Masons.
You ever buy from them? i feel like i get bent over everytime i walk in there.

Ahh, yep. If you'd like to borrow my 'mason's lube' let me know.
It's such a #### shoot with accounts and pricing... I've been going for 3 seasons now and I've discovered everybody has different pricing structures.
Today I learned Emser Tile will sell to me, as does FLa tile, adn Emser seemed to be pretty good. But many places you walk in, ask about pricing structure, contractor's discount.. whatever, and it's "no."
I bought a 20" pool trowel from Mason's two days ago--it was 30$something bucks. Scharpfs had a stainless one for about 10$ more. I gave Scharpfs a credit ap 6 mos ago they lost. Gave them another. His reply to pricing ?'s was "want better pricing get an account..."
I've only bought color and a few bags of wht portland, some type III cement.. from Masons but I know what you're talking about.
You'd think that being licensed, paying your ins, would get you a little better treatment from some outfits.

Im so going to use that line. Consider it stolen. LOL

If you ever have a use 3/4 , 6", 8" cleats let me know let me know . I several 5 gallon buckets full of them, plus a few full boxes, plus a bunch of other forming gear and stakes for 3/4 oil ply forming systems. Forms as well. I just don't use the stuff any more.
They can't get your Goat if you don't tell them where it is hidden.
That would be great. I dont do alot of foundation work, just like to do my own small foundations for additions or small homes. I do need (16) 4x8 sheets of ? (BBOES or1 sided MDO) for this foundation i am doing right now. Have any?
Was going to sub it out just cause i dont have the full panels, but figured i would just buy the panels, take a loss and keep busy.
Thanks
Full 4x8 panels I don't have, maybe on or two is all and they have been around for awhile. Sorry I can't help . Most of my form stock is 2'x 8' along with a lot of "cutters" ranging from 6" up to 7'6". Typical crawler house foundation stock. All the house foundation crews around here have gone to 1/2 MDO on 2x3 frames. They are using lumber banding tools and strapping to tie things together.

Waters,
I never understood the attraction of auctions, the winner is the one who pays the most? Where else in business does that make sense?
Sometimes paying the most at an auction can save you a great deal, and you might get a great deal in return.
I don't do auctions but rarely anymore (and haven't used eBay in years) but I've gotten some outstanding tools at a fraction of their cost at auctions. You just have to choose what you want and set your limits. A knowledgable buyer is one who will reap the auction rewards.

I used to be required to attend auctions to defend the brand as they call it. I would go and was empowered to bid up to wholesale market value on equipment. The idea was that nobody could buy Cat equipment for less than it's real value (no bargins) Most auctions would look at me and My starting bid was as high as I was authorised to go. Never ever won any equipment and I was constantly surprised by the prices paid at auction without a trade in, without financing, and without any sort of warrantee!
It's pure herd mentallity. Bid because others are bidding, doesn't matter that there are better ones at the dealership for less money and with a warranttee. Their friends are willing to pay that much so it must be a good deal!
In case you think only Cat did it, John Deere, Case, etc. all send reps.. usually the opening bid is given by the factory rep if the auctioner knows who they are..
I've seen extreme cases where I wouldn't bid on equipment because it's junk value wasn't high enough to warrant the freight costs involved and the prices paid for equipment that I knew would need tens of thousands of dollars worth of repairs was astonishing..
I've seen near new equipment sell for well over retail price (like you pointed out)
Herd mentality.. Must be a good price because Joe Bid that High!
A shill. I could spot them early on. As I said, I would set the price I was willing to pay, and would rarely go above it. I've bought oriental carpets, colonial furniture, tools, whatever; it's all a matter of being informed and making a plan and sticking to it.
You're right, I've had to let more go than I've bought because several bidders had to play one-ups-manship.
I miss it though. When the auction started, I could feel my pulse begin to quicken. Gotta watch that, it will lead you to the path of paying too much.

Yeah, there were some 'losers' for sure if you look at it that way!
Although i agree with you in some instances (like i and waters posted) I have also seen the other extreme were people got some really really good deals.
I bought a box at an auction that had 1 thing sitting on top that i wanted, i dont even recall what it was. In the bottom of the box were about a dozen or more 1''+ up to i think 1 3/4" tapered drill bits alot of repeat sizes. took them to my father in laws machine shop he offered me $10 bucks apeace. SOLD American.

The exception that proves the rule..
MY mother used to come home from her gambling junkets and brag about how much money she'd won in this hand or that.
Less than three years after inheriting 15 million dollars she was in her living room trying to calculate on how she could live on her social security alone..
Did ya sell the prazi beam cutter yet?
I might be interested...
still have it.
I have a 2nd saw I could stick it in... so I dunno might keep it.
New on ebay they're 140$ (IIRC)
You?
