I’ve just purchased the Williams & Hussey molder and need to wire in a switch. Any recommendations where to buy a magnetic switch for a tool like this – 200 volt, single phase? I’ve tried Grizzley.com but they are back ordered 6 – 8 weeks. For now I plan to have the machine run off a plug vs. being hardwired.

Hi MikeB,
Sorry but I can only suggest a local supply house or Northern Tool as they have a lot of unique stuff.
The real reason I am replying is I would love to hear more about your experiences with the molder one you get it up and running. Stan Foster recommended one to me long ago as a potential business opportunity. I really value his opinion and am one step away from making the jump and trying it out.
If I keep hanging out here I just may stay in business? Heaven help me! ;)

What kind of amps does this beast draw? Does the manufacturer recommended any particular rating for the switch? I would think that a common motor controller, available at any good electrical supply house, would work but mfr. recommendation would supercede this.
These safety switches don't seem to be as commonly available as I would hope, of course being too deaf to telephone does complicate a search a bit. I only found two places in a recent web search. I first checked Grainger's web page, but they only listed a couple of magnetic safety switches, for $265 and $512 respectively, and they didn't appear from the pictures to be what I wanted.
Partway down the page is a magnetic safety switch for table saws:

Even with a magnetic safety switch you may still want to use a detachable plug or put in an additional conventional switch near the piece of equipment - magnetic switches can start if they are jarred, even if the ON switch isn't pressed. Check out:

Mike: I just happened to see my namein your post here. If you need anymore info on the Williams & Hussey machine...ask away. Stan
woodworker supply (http://www.woodworker.com) has magnetic switches. I have an extra switch for a delta unisaw (brand new switch), let me know if you are interested.
