I just purchased an estwing hammer on ebay. The seller was itcpowertools. I didn’t look too closely at the pictures as (I thought) Estwing’s are Estwing’s. When I received the hammer there was a gray coating above the grip and the “Estwing” and “Always wear safety glasses” logos were painted and not embossed.
I emailed Estwing and they told me this is a seconds product. I don’t know if it will last but I thought this information might be helpful for those who use Estwing’s.

Lots of things out there are "seconds" of something.
For instance "Holly Farms " chicken, is , "Perdue" seconds.
I think I read somewhere that lie nielson ( the plane making people), melt down their seconds stuff.
speaking of chickens:
i was really surprised to find out earlier in the year that it is cheaper to import chickens from thailand to the UK than to raise them hear; its a mad world.
my chicken consumption has gone done considerably

There was a thread on here a week back or so, something about the fake makita tools. Well last night on e-bay I saw quit a few fake makita's as well as some milwaukee's. They were not selling them on e-bay as name brand tools but I would bet someplace someone is!
If it's not really a Estwing send it back, unless you like it.

What's a 'seconds' hammer? When I think of seconds material, I think of damaged goods, no? (My dictionary gives a definition of , 'inferior', which I guess answers my question.)
Seems like they misrepresented the tool. If you don't mind the hassle, tell them your beef and ask for a refund. They might even give it to you.
I thought that all Estwing hammers were seconds .
I don't like the ring so I won't swing an estwing.
Don....didja ever notice how the ring goes away after a couple of houses?
