My in-laws lived in Germany back in the early ’60’s and have visited there a few years ago. My MIL keeps telling me about these amazing doors that are in all the houses. She says there is a metal rod about a foot long in the wall to the right of the door. When you pull this rod, the door lifts up off a track to unlock and can swing open (like a normal door) OR you can pull another lever and the whole door tips inward from the bottom to allow airflow (so the hinges must disengage somehow). She says everyone leaves the doors propped inward for fresh air and that hardly anyone has screens over there. She says they are full-pane glass doors, like a large, french door.
Has anyone seen these or worked with them? If they’re so amazing and great, why aren’t we using them and where can I get some? I have several sets of sliders to replace in my fixer-upper.
Thanks for any info. Tom

There available at many places in North America. Google "Tilt and Turn" patio doors. They are great for fresh air like you say. They can even be tilted inwards while it's raining outside.
