Ever built a Mascord?

| Posted in General Discussion on May 21, 2005 01:42am

Alan Mascord Design Associates sells “stock” plans.  Based in the Pacific NW, they have offices in Portland, OR, and Seattle.

You can see their stuff by going to http://www.mascord.com/default.asp

Has anyone experience with building to a Mascord plan?

Gene Davis, Davis Housewrights, Inc., Lake Placid, NY

We've built a few now.  4 or 5.  The next house we are doing is a Mascord.  Here is a Mascord we did last year and then the house across the street is a Mascord design.  It's the one with the tile roof.

And how complete did you find the plans, for actual building?  Any dimension busts?

Did Mascord do the whole thing, design-wise?  In other words, did they engineer it specifically for the site and local code, and wet-sign the prints with a PE seal?Gene Davis, Davis Housewrights, Inc., Lake Placid, NY

Off the top of my head there were no issues with dimensioning at all.  In fact, one of the plans had a split pitch roof that was drawn for trusses and we stick framed it and every dimension on the plan matched up with what I figured.  I was very impressed.

The last one we built had engineering with it, most of which at the time wasn't required.  It seems like they include details on the prints that are needed in some places and not others.

I can't remember if it had a wet seal.  As soon as I get my plans back for the next house, I'll look at it to see if it has one.

Is the last one getting a tile roof too?

      That is nice framing Tim.

The house we are framing, the one in the pic will get tile.  They should start papering and batting Monday and if the weather holds, it'll be all done by Fri.

The next Mascord one we do will either be comp or shake.  We have to have our most of our roofs sheathed in ply or osb and if we do shake, it gets expensive.  The community (golf course) only allows tile or shake on golfcourse lots.  The next house has about 25' of woods between it and the course, so sometimes we fight over whether it's actually golf course or not

Thanks for the comments.  We had a slow week last week because we were two guys short, but I'll post pics in the photo gallery when we get the last fly rafters on.

      Pardon me?  What's your point?

What does this have to do with stock plans by Alan Mascord?

If you want to denigrate me, why do you choose to do it on this public forum?Gene Davis, Davis Housewrights, Inc., Lake Placid, NY

bad experience between them. None of my concern but Jay chooses to carry it around and carry it in here. The venomous attacks are against the rules of the forum.

Gene, or whoever he decides he is at the moment<G>,doesn't have exactly the best keyboardside manner. He has denigrated a whole state over a question of roof edging....?, but he does dance some mighty fancy sidesteppin' LOL. I say let Jay have him. Don't worry, we can fix that later!

I'm sure that there are plenty who may have minor issues with gene but the playground behaviour needs to be in the Tavern. Taht's where I go when i want to "play";)

You are correct. I will apologise for to the forum, but I can't let that kind of sh*t go.

I've told you before, I'm closer to the situation than you so I will reserve the right to make that determination.

I don't mean to "denegrate" , it's just that I know that a man has to earn the respect of his fellows, Every Day. Perhaps admitting that he is a wannabe is a step in the right direction for gene.

Actually Jay, you're a working brother, and if Gene stiffed you &/or took credit for your work, that's worthy of front page news on this forum, IMO. Not often both parties are in this ring...The truth will out. Don't worry, we can fix that later!
