apparently made by Makita company and carries a Makita warantee.
I got a drill/driver kit on ebay that was advertised as Makita, but I got a Maktec delivered.
The batteries are definitely lesser, only 1.6 amp hours, and the charger is slower too. My 12V makita charger goes to 2.6 Amps, and this one is 1.6
Dril smells like electrical burn when using it. Could be just break in period.

it's an old Makita line that has been discontinued for several years...
some parts are still available for sale...
this is according to Makita's tech support...

naw - Actuaally I got a full kit of Porter Cable 18V at Lowes a while back. They had it on sale sort of at $98 and I had a coupon that tok abother 10% or ten buck s off.Had the recip saw, circ saw, drill/driver, and flashlight, about 8 recip blades, the carry bag and two batteries.I gotr that for home, but somehow it migrated to the job....LOLAnyways, I was looking on Ebay for makita batteries or battery rebuilder as lot of mine are going down. I have two makita impacts and two drills, but broke the chuck / shaft on one, so when I cam across this 'deal' of a 12V makita drill new in box with two batteries for $70, I figured it sounded great.Been looking now at the googles for maktec aand it seems they are mostly in Austrralia and around that end of the Pacific rim. It is made in chinaProbably a fair deal for what I got, but not a great deal like I was thinking I got. Had it said maktec, i would have done this research first and apssed on it.Looked again with my glasses on and see the battery is 1.3 amp hr is all.

Not really, it doesn't have enough power to hurt him ... "Put your creed in your deed." Emerson
"When asked if you can do something, tell'em "Why certainly I can", then get busy and find a way to do it." T. Roosevelt
AND the "fast one hour charger" took three hours to charge each battery the first time. Maybe it will go faster now tht they aren't virgin batteries any more

... after a hot session in the back seat of the car one night at the drive-in, the boy says to the girl "If I'd-a known you was a virgin, I would have taken more time" and she responds "If I'd known you had more time, I would have taken my pantyhose off." "Put your creed in your deed." Emerson

I have seen the Maktec line at Menard's stores for a year or so now. Seem to be a cheap version of the Makitas.
I think you should get your money back if it was advertised as a Maktia.
