Doing a little demo work an came across a felt type that I’ve never seen before. I’m thinking the goal was to help create a drainage plane behind the wood siding. Was wondering if somebody knew more about it? I’d guess the addition was built prewar, but not by much.

wow!
I've never seen anything like that. Are we looking at the felt against the outside of the wall or the inside? Is it over the studs or
between? Looks like those galvanized metal strips are nailed onto the sheathing after the sheathing is applied. Hmmm.. is this a
spoof?
I'm guessing it was an attempt to provide an air space between the outside sheathing and some sort of insulation in the wall. Might make sense if the insulation were something that didn't repel water very well, such as cotton lint.
Did you pull any insulation out of there? That stuff that's sticking, does it seem like remnants of insulation, or just 80 years of cobwebs?
It looks like a primitive drainage bed behind wire mesh and stucco. The white line to the left is suggestive.
I dunno -- that white line doesn't turn me on at all.
