Last Wednesday I went to a seminar about getting along with difficult people and one of the things the host suggested to everyone was learning dynamic reading. She claimed it would help immensely even with dealing with everyday situations. The courses seem a little pricey but if there’s a big payoff then I’m down. Anyone try it?
From a business standpoint I would think it would be the cats
that’s why I’m asking in the business folder.

What exactly is "dynamic reading". Are you reading concepts in print instead of words, or is it some type of psychological assessment whereby you "read" a difficult person to see how they are going to react?

Dynamic reading is about reading fast and comprehending what your reading.
Totaly different from learning when to punch someone out, and when to apologize for misunderstanding their stupidity.

"Evelyn Wood's Reading Dymanics" I took that course several times in college (20 years ago). The teach you to read words in groups, to read one line forwards and the next line backwards, and eventually to read whole paragraphs at once. Your brain has an amazing ability to straighten out the sentences.
I don't read that way today, mainly because I prefer the old fashioned way of reading. You can probably get some methods off the web (google speed reading). Try this out first and see if it is to your liking.

The studies of speed reading I recall from way back when indicated that it didn't help reading comprehension -- maybe hurt it a little.

The absolute best course for getting along with people would be the Dale Carnegie course. As they say on Ebay... +++AAA great course, would take it again. The course is expensive but you will never regret spending the money.

not to hijack, but i've read that book (not taken a class) twice about 4 years apart. Haven't read it in about ten years now but as far as dealing with people and situations it is very educational.

I took a course about 40 years ago in early highschool called "Advanced Reading" that covered the reading techniques as well as rules of logic to help analyze what you are reading. I enjoyed it so used what I learned and got better at it to the point where I am not conscious of doing it anymore.
Hindsight says it was the most important thing I learned from 18 years of school.
Thanks.
