Hey y’all,
My excavator dug too deep. 1′ 2″ deep. So my footings are really low in my walkout basement. My garage elevation (1st floor), is at the proper elevation. I can’t lower the house because I am building at 7k feet on the side of a mountain – 4,500 sq. ft. home. I am not going to pour 26″ deep footings to make up for this, nor will I pour a 18″ slab. What kind of gravel/backfill would you recommend getting under those footings to bring my basement slab up to proper elevation?
Any other ideas, super welcomed! Thanks 🙂

Why not just make the basement ceiling taller?
It will change everything in my structurals, steel beams and posts, and overall elevation of the house. Yeah its only 1 foot, but the architects are extremely particular... resubmit to county for plan approval... so much.
I'm thinking just a foot of crushed gravel well compacted?
Put the gravel under the slab but not under the footings. Footings on fill would require compaction testing.
