we are building a small (weekend) log cabin. the carpenter says i should install an exhaust fan in the bath room and it will need to be “boxed in” because the ceiling is the loft floor . do i really need an exhaust fan.? we will not use that shower all that much. what do you say, guys?

Yes you need it. And turn it on everytime you use the shower. You need it to remove the condensation that builds up from the shower steam. The condensation soaks in to your drywall and then gets it wet. They only cost a few dollars and save you thousands. And it's code.

It would be a good idea for the reason's Gunner said. I bet your contractor can come up with a box to house it that would match the surrounding details too... Just get creative.
Around here you have to either have an operable window or an exhaust fan, so strickly speaking it's not mandatory, but who really opens a window all the time when they shower?
