I guess you are using hardi-backer...

BTW - that is never gonna work right.  You used the wrong color of caulk... ;-)

Cool. Alabamas answer to  Jesse James.

So what's the pupose of the experiment? To show that the water won't soak through?

Mule was probably snoring or something hideous. There's a place not to far away from here that used to be a hotel now it's a house. He'd hide out there. Legend has it that there was a tunnel to another house. There he fathered a child by a local girl. Or something like that, I just wanted to fix the electric and get out when the old lady was babbling on about it.

I had to do the same thing in my bathroom, but I hung some plastic over the Hardi ,....... because I already had enough headaches in there..
what about the joints? won't water seep into the cracks?"

          3. davidmeiland | Oct 02, 2005 06:16pm | #16

Try cutting some pieces of equal size, weighing them, then soaking half of them in water and weighing them later. Apparently Hardi siding will absorb 1/3 of its weight in water, which means it is holding quite a bit of water against your building.

Besides, it's not necessarily straight thru the board that the leaks occur, it's at the joints. Once you have water leaking in around a window, Hardi board will absorb quite a bit of it and keep it there.

its been over twenty hours and it starting to seep through. This is with a head of water sitting on top. I think it could handle a shower with no problem.

            May I suggest another experiment?

Cut an orange/lime/grapefriut in half and set it on a piece of granite countertop.

            Result?  It soaks through!

Set it on a piece of solid surface or engineered stone, nothing.

I haven't tried this with chicken yet.

Good stuff---  I bet wonderboard would last about 10 seconds

When in doubt, get a bigger hammer!

How are you going to get the chicken to hold still?

A friend did a test of hardi backer when it was first available.  He cut about 15 pieces 3"x3", and dumped them all into a bucket of water.  The first week he cut 3 pieces in half to see if they had soaked through.  He repeated the process for a month, and none of the pieces had soaked through.  He left a couple pieces in the bucket for a few months, but the water started to stink, so he ended the experiement.
