How long, after trowling, do I spray on the moleasses? How long ,after spraying, do I wash it off? What is the ratio of moleasses to water in the spray? Is my ratio of cement =1 sand=2.25 rock=3 OK? Is there something better than moleasses?
Thank you…….

roy- I sure hope you carry a humorous side to yourself after that last spelling of molasses 'cause me thinks you're going to need it once the posts start rolling in. :>)
Sorry rez....I live in the Pacific Northwest....We don't use that stuff here........But I see on the jar I left out an ssssssssss.
Thanks...
Why do you wrap your gerbil in black electrician's tape?
PETA is really gonna be mad when they hear about all those poor moles!
I have never used it as a retarder but not saying it won't work. I have heard of using brown sugar but it is very tricky to use. Why don't you go and buy the actual retarder for exposed aggregate. It is far easier to know what it will do. Your mix, well what type of finish are you looking for. Here we use what is called pea gravel. The rocks are about the size of a pea and makes a really nice exposed aggregate. Phone your local gravel supplier and they probably have a mixture already made.
I did it myself last fall, for the first time, and am very pleased with the results. I used a 50-50 mix of molasses and water, applied with a garden sprayer. Our local redi mix plant uses crushed granite aggregate, so we sprinkled the top with a layer of decorative washed pea gravel after the first saw-screed, then sawed again and floated smooth, then sprayed on the molasses mix. I made a group of four 12"x12" forms and poured and sprayed them at the same time as the slab, to use as test pads for the water spray. First attempt was about 40 minutes after float-off, and was too soon. I kept trying on the other test pads, at about 15 or 20 minute intervals, and found the right set-up on the second or third attempt. I then set up and spray-washed the cream off the slab, exposing the aggregate. It went throught the winter that way. Soon I will wash and scrub it and apply a waterborne exterior slab sealer I got from my local concrete supply house.
Roy, I'm also in the PNW. Cadman delivered a load of mix specifically for exposed aggregate and it turned out great. We put on moleas...., molas....however you spell that, right after screedding and hosed it off about an hour later. Darrell
DHAMBLEY2......Thank you......Your's is my best answer.
