Hello There,
I am in the middle of building a 2 storey garage and have decided to make it look ‘heritage’ from the start. I intend to frame it using old barn boards as the final veneer. My question is, after framing the walls using 7/16 aspenite and wrapping with Tyvek, should I use a 3/8 crezon sheet before installing the barn boards?
The boards will have some existing knot holes as well as some gaps and I feel that some sort of exterior sheathing is required to protect the actual wall structure. I can also paint the crezon black to compensate for any holes/gaps that the barn boards will have.
I am not looking for a board and batten look
Thanks for your help,
Jeremy

Skip the Tyvek and go felt. 30# would be forever.
Aspenite doesn't exist any more, it's OSB thank goodness.
Ship lap the boards and make up some knot plugs from scrap.
Consider 1x3 skip sheating for nailers between the OSB and felt as OSB dosen't to hold fasteners very well.
Who ever invented work didn't know how to fish....
What Imerc said.
Rig you up a template and dutchman in any/some of the knots. This will give a real old time look. We could steal an idea from a middling famous stair case, and have a carved wren or sparrow peaking out of one of the knot holes (gives a story for why the dutchmen are in, too).
Strapping is a good idea even if you are using ordinary lapped clapboards, FWIW.
