HO wants a flat BMoore white ext latex on his trim.
I’m in question over the durability of the flat sheen in respect to a more standard semi-gloss.
Is the semigloss more durable? Thanks

Simple answer without getting all technical about it is that if you're comparing apples to apples (same brand, same color and same quality of paint assumed)........the flat paint is softer than a higher sheen and so it will wear away faster....... but the flat has more/better hiding capabilty. Consequently additional coats of a higher gloss may be required to hide an underlying color.
Knowledge is power, but only if applied in a timely fashion.

Thank you. I'll file that away in memory for future reference.Tho' it is white topcoat on white primer I needn't be concerned as the HO said regardless of the outcome he wants flat white.be sometimes the customer is always right:o)
A person with no sense of humor about themselves is fullashid
flat paint- and especially flat white- has more 'tooth' so it gets and looks dirty faster; also mildew and moss/algae. (just like interior flat gets fingerprints and grungy faster- that's why more people are using the Eggshell finish instead of flat).
i have heard that exterior paints now contain something to discourage the growth of mildew etc, but the tooth will still pick up dirt dust etc. therefore needing more washing to stay looking truly clean; therefore getting more wear and possibly not lasting as long.
i'd go with your first instinct and try to get the HO to approve a satin.
You got it, Razzman. Give the customer what they want. What the heck do you know about it! Make sure you put your reservations in writing for the future. Homeowners have selective memory when something goes south.Beat it to fit / Paint it to match
