I have fiberglass columns that were painted and installed approximately five (5) years ago and have required cleaning continually because of algae formation. The columns are on the south facing part of the house. They were initially cleaned thoroughly and spray painted ( two coats of Glidden oil based paint of their best quality) prior to installation. Now the paint is starting to peel off and it appears that repainting will be required. Five years appears to me to be an unusually short life for this paint. Does anyone have any ideas on any better paint that I could use and/ or what other changes in application/preparation that could be tried to improve this situation? These columns have extreme detail and longer painting intervals would be desirable. I would even consider prepainted fiberglass columns if they were available. Thanks for any help that you may provide.

Marine 2-part epoxy paint. You need something that will truely bond to the fiberglass. Must be absolutely clean and perfectly dry. May have to sandblast, tent them, clean them with solvent and paint.
