I need to replace a 6′ sliding door that currently empties to a carport and has been used as a primary entrance into the home. Is it possible to come up with a pocket door arrangement for an exterior door?

I had once considered doing that using a standard sliding patio door, but the project went another way. It seems doable.

There is a company in Rutland or West Rutland Vermont that makes a sliding pocket door. I do not remember the name of the company. We were just subs on the job and only installed the door. It was an 8' by8' door with two panels which both slid into a pocket on one end. Custom made with very slick hardware. You could move the panels with one finger. Cost- Over $14,000 uninstalled and unfinished. The guy that brought over told us that the company was thinking of dropping it as a money loser. It is at the bottom of their price range.
