Exterior Primer for hardboard siding
I might be doing some working on an old house that has some extensive renovations, but the HO is now working out of town.
1970’s house with hardboard. Some board need to be replaced. But in general it is in OK shape.
However, several doors have been replace and left rough ends and the finish pulled off. But those areas are still sound.
What kind of primer to spot prime. I assume an exterior oil to that will be absored into the fibers.
Any specific type or other than just an “exterior, oil primer”.
.
A-holes. Hey every group has to have one. And I have been elected to be the one. I should make that my tagline.

Get a fast drying alkyd. Some of the oil primers take forever to harden.
When we resided our house about 18 years ago we used alkyd primer (BM Moorewhite) on the cut ends of the hardboard. Would still recommend that.
The face of the board was "factory primed", so we just used the acrylic latex topcoat on that, with no primer (and it worked out well). If, however, you have siding with a porous face I'd prime the face too.
