Aside from Azek and the fancy stuff, what type of wood do you use typically use for exterior trim (i,e 1×3 and 1×5 boards)? Is it just plain spruce with a good exterior paint? Should I let the boards dry out?
Most of the houses I know of are sided, trimmed and soffitted with vinyl and/or aluminium. I want to trim out a detached garage which I’ll side with that siding-grade plywood.
btw, I live near Ottawa Ontario, if anyone can recommend the appropriate species for this area..
Thanks,

Down here in the Southeast it's normally Doug Fir, but I have been using Hardi and PVC. The Hardi is a pain to work with, but once painted, it looks great and holds paint much better and longer.
