We use a panel product called Crezone. It is paper face one side, and specified for exterior use. We seal the edges with glue or paint.1x trim material is either cedar or fir, well primed and painted or clear finished with Sikkens marine finish called ??? can’t remember.

The Sikkens product is called Cetol. As good as it gets for stain grade exterior use. Has a distinct orange colour.

Look into Choicetrim/Primetrim type products. Trimmed out my house with Choicetrim with my hardie plank and it looks good now, and I expect it will years from now. It comes in 4/4 and 5/4 thickness, and is smooth one side and wood grained on the other.
*I second that. We have been using Primetrim for a few years now and I think it works very well. We left a piece out in the rain for about 9 months and no discernible damage. But, as with anything, make sure you prime all sides before you install. And if you are going to do a lot of machining, wear a mask.

Hello All,
I am interested in experience or opinions on choosing a stable, smooth, and paintable 1X / molding trim material. Is MDO the way to go for a larger paintable area that will be finish trimed with 1X ? Any info on type and grade would be greatly appreciated.
