I’m building my first house and need some ideas on triming the exteriors of widows. If anyone knows of a good book or have an original thought please let me know. Thanks.

If you are going for the classic casing and wood sill look, use a wood suitable for exterior use, prime it on all sides, prime all cut ends, and finish with a quality exterior paint. Flashing details are very important and never use finger jointed materials in this application.

Greg Mac - Your question seems to be at least in part on style, but you don't say what style. For a traditional look my preference is:
- Factory applied 1 x 4 casings (Marvin)
- Marvin double-thick sill edge (almost 2")
- Small solid ogee crown (rabbeted to sit on top of
top casing), self-return
- Painted copper or lead-coated copper drip caps w/
braked edge over crown
Of course if you are more contemporary and trimless in your approach this look isn't appropriate. Having dealt with both, however, guess which one lasts longer. I don't like plastic house exteriors, or columns, or windows -- you can tell from a long way away unless you don't care, and it sounds like you do.
