Extreme Dumpster Diving.

Gunner | Posted in General Discussion on March 1, 2009 05:47am

Thought you would get a kick out of my bosses latest find. He was checking out a job that we are getting ready to start in a couple of weeks. (The two story vault move.) The place they are moving it too is also getting a new refigeration unit. They are cutting the concrete floor up for the refrigeration lines and getting rid of it. He gladly took it off their hands.

I thought of you as soon as I saw these slabs. Your one of the few people that would apreciate a find like this.I was at the shop welding up a safe for myself today and thought I’d take a couple of pics for you to drool over.

So, those are slabs of concrete all stickered up? What will they be used for?

Stickerd up?  I think he's going to use them for fill on one of his farm.

I think he's going to use them for something like that. He has some sort of project going on with a creek. I don't know anything about it but he had some old island ATM's that he wanted to get rid of they were the old ones that are reinforced concrete. He took them out there and dumped them. He may be building his own creek for all I know.

I'd like to see the archeologist in a couple thousand years that dig that stuff up. Talk about a puzzle of stuff that doesn't fit. LOL

with floatation they made a great floating dock... all the really nice floating docks/boatslips are usually cast concrete...

i think the weight makes them more stable?

I have learned i need to use it before i have to move it 2x or it just ain't worth it..usually

                 Makes sense about the stability.

I've adopted the same clutter policy. Works much nicer in the garage.

Well, invite her over here then.

A cottage is sometimes just a fancy shed.

          3. TileGal | Mar 02, 2009 12:02am | #28

It was a cute little craftsman shed - F. doubled it for her a few years back.  Now it probably just makes the "cottage" cut.

          7. TileGal | Mar 02, 2009 07:31am | #32

She has been known to partake of the fruits of other divers' labors, but, I regret she hasn't been begiled by the actual diving, herself.

          8. rez | Mar 02, 2009 11:50pm | #33

alas, and I had such high hopes.

To be involved in the eclectic collectic community is not for the faint of heart or one disposed to a bridle of blinkers.

          9. TileGal | Mar 03, 2009 02:01am | #34

Yes, I understand your disappointment.  What is any relationship not built upon a firm foundation of dumpster diving?

          10. rez | Mar 03, 2009 02:28am | #35

            It is only true.

Reminds me of a few years back where a lady I was working for was driving me to a bank or somewhere when on the way back she asks if I would mind a quick stop along the way for a second.

I said sure no problem and she whips in this alley behind a store where she knew the owner,

proceeds out of the van and hangs in over the side of the dumpster to check for any new goodies.

Cracked me up. Still does just thinking about it.

My oldest was very embarrassed once when I was trolling around in one of the big dumpsters by her school.  It had great new construction material, nice long 2x for my garden.

            F. tends to get over enthusiastic.  I've had to send back kid toys covered in not nice stuff occasionally.

          14. rez | Mar 03, 2009 05:20am | #39

I've found that hitting an auction at the right time can usually keep my yayas occupied

and this past year haunting the neighborhood Lowes for bargains has managed to cut back the auction endeavors quite a bit.

            But sometimes auctions become unbelievable.

            Unbelievable I say, unbelievable.
