Face or toenail wood plank paneling
I plan to create a rustic paneled wall with reclaimed 2×6 pine rafters, resawn to 3/4 thickness. I will attach weathered side out with about 1/8 gap and no edge jointing onto a stud exterior wall now under construction.
I’m thinking about hanging drywall as an airblock and painted it dark as there will be open gaps between the boards. I need advice on how to attach….
Toenail with 15 ga finish nailer. Is there an attachment to help with alignment?
OR facenail with 18 ga pin nails, neatly and hoping they dont show much.
OR facenail with larger head decorative nail in consistent pattern (maybe in combination with some toenailing).
Suggestions or links would be appreciated. The wall is 8′ x 16′.
Thanks.

horizontal strapping or blocking -- either behind or in front of the drywall. fancy way to attach would be zee-clips.
Good suggestion, but I'm realizing fastening only at the top of a horizontal plank leaves the bottom edge unsecured. That's the advantage of t&g. I'm going to do some experimenting with a pin nailer and see how visible the hole is. Putty was not on my list.
For a rustic look, consider face-nailing with decorative nails in a consistent pattern, ensuring secure attachment and adding visual appeal. To maintain alignment, use a chalk line or laser level as a guide. Alternatively, toenailing with a 15 ga finish nailer provides strong attachment, and using an alignment tool or jig can aid in keeping boards straight during installation.
how about construction adhesive— 23 ga pins through drywall doesn’t sound like a secure attachment
