Hi All,
What are the best fasteners for installing 3/4 pine dutchlap siding? I am rebuilding a wall where the previous builder used 2 1/2″ galvanized finish nails – I know that’s not right/substantial enough but they have seemed to hold up surprisingly well.
What is the best technique / location of the fastener? I have read some articles which recommend nailing an 1 1/2″ up from the bottom of the siding a little above where the siding piece and the piece below overlap – but definitely not throuh both at the same time.
Thanks for the advice.

"Galvanized finish nails"
"Galvanized finish nails" would be casing nails, which probably are adequate.
Your nailing advice is correct. I would use Maze S227A “SPLIT-LESS”® WOOD SIDING NAILS (if you're hand nailing).
