Hello.
Just took apart a 12′ x 20′ deck a recently moved in neighbor did not want in his yard. It is about two years old with redwood railings and deck boards on 2x framing. The deck boards were screwed down to the framing. Are there oversized fasteners, screws or nails, I can use on the deck boards when I rebuild it to cover the holes left by backing out the screws while disassembling?
Thanks…

check here - http://www.mcfeelys.com/index.asp - possibly something like a panhead screw would suit - did the boards splinter/blow out a chip when the screws were removed? - I'm thinking some sort of filler may be the ticket -
Can ya flip them over and use the same holes?

Hello
I need to take apart part of my deck that is fastened with screws? What was your method of "disassembly?" I've got a good drill, but my galvanized screws won't budge. I'd like to salvage the wood and reuse it. Any ideas?
thanks

Joel, the things may be stuck beyond unscrewing, but I'd at least try an impact driver. You'll want one for the rebuild of the deck anyhow, and they are great tools to have. I have the Makita 12v and love it. If you are not familiar with this tool, a quick search here should bring up lots of threads. I think the Tools of the Trade site had a comparison test of these a while back.
Only other possibility would be the brute force approach; if you can get underneath, you slide a recip saw metal cutting blade in there and sever the screws. Be kind of a PITA job, though.
