I’m in the market for some new tool bags. My old friends that I’ve worn for the last twenty years have finally given up. Tuesday I bought a new pair of “Boulder bags” which was a three bag system made from cordura with suspenders that clip to rings on the belt. I like the rings as a feature. First day I worn em I was up on some scaffolding and when I took my new bags off to take a break one of the bags with my hammer and cats paw, tape, line cutters etc. essentially weighing about 3-4 lbs slipped off the belt and fell 3 stories and danged near beaned some guy on the head. These bags have Velcro that is supposed to keep the bags in place but they suck at that so I’m returning them. What brand do you guys like?

Veto Pro Pack is what I've carried around for the past 4 years or so. Wouldn't buy anything else.... but if I'm up on a ladder, or going under a house where I'm going to have a few specific tools with me, I like the plane old "bucket boss", heck sometimes even just a bucket serves best. Up on a ladder, I'll use one of those giant caribiners to hook it on to whatever I can... works fine.
just heavy

I'm not looking for a bag to put my tools in.....hell...I have a truck for that. I'm talking about nail bags...like these. These are the ones I bought:

Sorry if I gave you the wrong impression....

that's OK. I usually just use a nail apron from the lumberyard.
Too tired after lugging that Veto around to carry anything else.

Diamondback. The best.

If you are O.K. with nylon. And you have deep pockets.

Occedental leather.
Had mine for over 20 years, only 1 trip to the saddle shop to get sewn back together.
I just bought a new set of leather Occidental bags; wore my nylon set out. I looked at bags by six diferent manufacturers and ended up dropping the big $ on the Occidental set. There is no regret in paying for the best, especially when you wear it daily.
How's the 'break-in' period going on those new puppies? That's what keeps me from buying a set of leather Occi's. I remember breaking in my green set..... honestly took about six months for the leather parts to become comfortable.View Image
Only trouble I've had with my Oxy's is the leather dye leaching on to my clothes when I'm sweating a lot.
i have owned two sets of the canvas oxy's. my first was stolen(: after three or four years the leather tape holder will be next to worthless. i finally cut mine off after losing it 2 times within ten minutes. that and the pockets on the left are nowhere near big enough to grab nails conveniently. i remember my first set being bigger on the left side??in terms of durability you will be hard pressed to find something better. i looked into the diamondbacks, but they looked so big. i am big enough as is. don't need to much help there
Every day is a gift, that's why it's called the present.
Occidentals here, the green canvas bags, leather belt, leather edges. Nice but takes sometime to break in. One complaint is some of the small compartments are hard to get your hand in and pull nails out. But that is true with a lot of bags. I was going to go with the all leather but they seemed stiffer than the canvas.

i bought the oxy pro frammer double bags and love them no break in time my partner has the oro frammer 7 bag which is cool too but seems much heavier for some reason. now i have my eye on a set of pro trimmers but i would need to rivet a tape holder on
I have the oxxy leathers my self.
Yes they are beautifull--yess they will out last me----
but they are a love hate thing.
Very heavy--very hot.
If you spend a lot of time standing--working at a cut table etc-they are great. but the more active you are--the less use they are-- the weight really becomes an issuealso--it's tough to take them off and set them down anywhere without a lot of fasteners spilling everywherelove 'em---AND hate 'em

I have the Diamondbacks and the Occi leather framers. Im with DP, the break in period for the Oxys is torture. The diamondbacks are just a bad design, rugged but senseless. I broke in the Oxys durig a summer and the leather leached a red color on everything I wore from sweat. Be prepared to have red stained skin and pants. I will probably get the Oxy lights next, from what I've read they seemto be a good compromise.
I always framed with one pouch and a hammer holster anyway. I couldn't imagine walking around with a hammer in your azzcrack all day like these nail pouch pictures show.
Occy lites. They have two years left in them, then I will replace them with leathers. My only complaint is the pencil holder on the right side is useless if your pencil is less than half. Other than that ,I love them.
If the only thing wrong with them is that the bag comes off then just fix it.
I always modify my bags. So if your are close then just fix it. Pop rivets? I don't know.
Leather sewing awl with waxed thread.
By the time I retire any nail apron, it has as much of my stitching in it as the original. I toss them when I get wear through.
I hate breaking in new ones, and then I never get the same kind, so I have to relearn were everything is located. I'm slow enough. I don't need to be hunting around for things that I normally reach for without thinking.
That's a good way to go. This last set of bags I just got big single pockets and put my own setup inside of them. That way I get everything where I want it.
To tell the truth I still haven't done it. They are waiting in line for my attention.
A good way to do it is to just put a few stitches in something to tack it on and try it before you make it permanent.
