FC siding: carbide blade or shears?
I’m tackling my first FC siding job in a week and was wondering whether you pros out there prefer cutting it with FC carbide blades (4-5 teeth) or power shears? I’ll be using the HardiPlank 8 1/4″ lap siding.
I’ve already got a Skilsaw or three and the blades aren’t that spendy (got some for $20 each). I don’t own the shears, but can rent one for $20.00 a day or just buy one if it comes to that (I’ll probably be doing another house next year). Absent any advice, I’ll use the Skillsaw, but would consider using the shears if I get a strong recommendation or two.
Also, another issue: Not having used the shears, I’m a little concerned if I can cut a straight line with them vs. the saw — how hard is it?

Well I can cut about as strait with shears as with my Skilsaw, but then I'm not all that straight with the saw. Seriously the shears are one of the best 219 that I have spent in quite some time. NO DUST, which is a big plus to me, even without considering the health benefits. I think less noise too, or at least a more pleasant tone. Probably should buy rather than rent, unless you can put siding up really fast, there seems to be endless trimming to do, at least on my house! The only trick is to remember which side of the line, because they take about a 1/4 inch cut, which can make a difference! Enjoy

Those shears are on Ebay brand new alla time for $100 to $150. This was just discussed within the last month with a number of different opinions. Joe H
