Does the Multi master work as advertised on TV or is it just another gizmo that falls short on expectations? I plan on using it to cut into wood. The plunge technique they showed on TV is what I would use it for the most.
Thanks Charlie

Try the search feature. The Multimaster has been discussed here quite a bit. I don't recall anyone having anything negative to say about it.
OK, I'll be the first to say something negative about it.They came out with the new model with that easy quick change gizmo right after I bought the old model so every time I spend 2-3 minutes changing accessories, I cuss myself for lack of foresight and research.other than that. it is a fantastic tool. I don't think I would have been able to do much of the work I've done the past couple weeks without it.

Very inconsiderate of me...as to the value of the tool, in my opinion if Jesus would have had one no way does he end up paying for the sins of the world.Rather the " J.H. Christ and Associates Contractors and Salvation Specialists" would have been the toast of the empire! No emperor would dare crucify a carpenter who owned such a tool.and a skidsteer and maybe a laser level or two as wellI'm just sayinganywaysorry I gave you an obsolete model.buy the variable speed one CharliezNo Tag

It'll plunge through till you hit a nail then it'll plunge through wood like spoon.
Its a great tool, excellent quality, with tons of uses that you won't think of at first.
For me, the only negative is the cost of replacement blades.
Politics is the antithesis of problem solving.
The blades do cost money, but for me, cost is relative.First - like any other job cost, the customer pays for it.
Second, relative to the cost of the labour involved doing the job without that tool and accessories, those blades are cheap. And they are good, lasting a long time

finally broke down and bought one last week, $600 for a kit and 1 special blade!!!!
here's a link http://www.multiblades.com/ you should check out this guy sells replacement blades at a fair price for both old & new models of the multimaster. I've purchased ten at $160.00 mixed wood & drywall blades and got one free + free shipping a good deal and you have them in 4 or 5 days and he takes credit card or paypal . I've e mailed him about specialty blades for the MM he sent me an email that he is now in the process of selling them.

Is this the same guy that shut down sales a few months back after he was threatened with a patent infringement law suit by Fein?
I was just going to order when he shut down. IIRC the infringment was on the hole design, and if I look at the current web site he may have changed the hole. Is that what happened?

Yes it's the same guy. Here's the e mail I received from AL on 6/21/08 and on 6/26 he reopened for business it will explain it all I hope this helps

Frank, Thanks for your request. I am still selling blades but I am postponing reopeing my site untilabout the middle of next week. The star hole this lawyer is complaining about was in existence yearsbefore Fein patented their star hole. My star hole is different and Iwill be sending this lawyer a copy of the catalog I have that showsthe star hole I use is not infringing on their patent. To prove that in court cost hundreds of thousands, I am in contactwith Fein's lawyer and I will be sending him proof that my star hole wasin use many years ago. I am happy to know I have proof now that my star hole is notinfringing on any patent. For the time being I am using a different hole, that works as good asthe star hole, until this issue becomes clarified. See the attachment. Next week my site will begin offering round diamond grit blades andtungsten carbide grit blades for removing grout and for other applications ata fracction of the cost compared to Fein's. If you still want to order some blades with the new hole you see inthe attachment go to my old page and order from there and remember thestar hole you see in the pictures is not the one I am using now. http://www.multiblades.com/none1.html Thanks for your request. It's a good tool, but watch out for nails - unless you are using the combination metal blade. Even then, I am careful to remove nails whenever possible to extend blade life.
One thing that surprised me is that I have used the scraper blade about ten times as much as I thought I would - almost as much as I have used the wood blades. That scraper has many uses and it can be easily sharpened.
Yeah, I've probably used the scraper more than all others combined. I wouldn't use it for removing the finish from fine furnature, but for jobs like removing bits of linoleum it's the cat's PJs.

Great tool- expensive blades. We have a lumber yard that sells the blades individually for a reasonable price. I use the bi-metal if I even THINK a nail maybe buried. The tool can do some jobs faster and easier than any other. Good investment.
I took the plunge about 3 months ago and bought a multi-master. It is REALLY good for tight, plunge cuts such as repairing flooring. I don't need to overwork my chisel anymore! It also is a dream for making super fine cuts in pieces of moulding that need to be removed, then replaced for a project.
I haven't used all of the features yet, but I think it's worth it. You really do need to protect the blades though. They are wicked expensive and they tend to dull quickly when carving up hardwood flooring...
RR
I've always thought that if Fein was smart, they'd give the motors away. That would make more people available to buy their high priced blades, etc. It's a fantastic tool.
